Plankton has created a robot replica of Mr. Gary, having escaped beforehand, finds and reunites with SpongeBob. Meanwhile, at The Chum Bucket, SpongeBob's self-destructing tape recorder, having been carried from SpongeBob's house by one of the ants, finally works and destroys the restaurant. He asks SpongeBob to protect his treasure from ghost pirates. The last thing Plankton asks for is a hundred dollar ransom. SpongeBob asks Squidward to help him collect cheese to get Gary back.
Plankton tells them to bring Krabby Patties to The Chum Bucket, but they mishear and bring them to SpongeBob's house. SpongeBob watches a group of sea ants go inside The Chum Bucket. After the mission, Plankton tells SpongeBob that he needs a collection of Krabby Patties. SpongeBob asks Patrick for help, so Patrick agrees to help SpongeBob collect jellyfish jelly. The recorder fails to self-destruct after the briefing. SpongeBob's first task, given over a tape recorder, is to get his boating permit. Plankton kidnaps SpongeBob's pet snail Gary, and SpongeBob is required to do tasks for Plankton to give Gary back. Some may enjoy it but most will likely find it boring.The game features two separate stories, depending on which side of the bed the player chooses to wake up on.
Overall, this is game that will probably appeal more to the younger Spongebob crowd than the older fans. In a few instances, a character talks but their mouths remain closed or unchanged. In the cutscenes before and after the mini games, the mouth movements can look awkward and sometimes don't match what the character is saying. Since this is a game from 2001 and one based on a TV series, it does not have the best graphics. His actor in this game is not bad but he doesn't sound like Clancy Browns Mr Krabs and that may disappoint some fans. The voice acting is top notch as it features most of the original cast except Mr Krabs. The games are short and have a simple goal which can be fun for the younger fans but may seem repetitive for the older fans. Both sides have the same mini games but they are played in a different order, have different music and some have different playable characters. The objective of the game is to complete three levels of six mini games on one side of a bed to complete one of the stories. On the wrong side, Plankton has kidnapped Gary and Spongebob needs to collect specific items to get Gary back. Spongebob needs to warn the real Mr Krabs before Plankton can get the patties. On the right side, Plankton hires sea ants to steal krabby patties in a robot Mr Krabs. Operation krabby patty has two stories which are the right side and wrong side of the bed.
